Vera Smith York

SOPHIA--Vera Smith York, age 85, of Sophia died Thursday, July 18, 2013 at her home. The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 21, 2013 from 1:30 PM - 2:45 PM prior to service at South Plainfield Friends Meeting, 4033 Plainfield Road, Sophia. The funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM with Rev. Hugh C. Spaulding and Rev. Ricky Sessoms officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Mrs. York was born in Surry County on August 2, 1927 to Edgar and Grace Smith. She was a retired teacher with the Randolph County School System. Vera was a member of South Plainfield Friends Meeting. In addition to her parents, Vera was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Grant York and brothers, Robert and Harry Smith. She is survived by her daughters, Pat Davis and her husband Randy of Sophia, Janice Pell and her husband Reid of Asheboro; sons, Kenneth York and his wife Patsy of Sophia, Dennis York and his wife Sheryl of Sophia, Michael York and his wife Margaret of Sophia; 8 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Hicks of Mt. Airy, Ina Edmisten of Charlotte, Gae Armstrong of Mt. Gilead; and brother, Ray Smith of Mt. Airy.
