Walter Vance Callicutt went home to be with the Lord on Friday, June 20, 2008.
He was born June 26, 1935 in Asheboro, North Carolina to Rankin and Zelma McPherson Callicutt.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, June 22, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, Asheboro with Rev. Tom Benedict officiating. Burial will follow in the Bethel Friends Meeting Cemetery with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
He grew up in Asheboro and attended Asheboro City Schools. Vance was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. On July 3, 1966 he married Lessie Suits in the Asheboro United Church of Christ. Vance and Lessie later moved to Archdale where they have made their home ever since. Vance was self-employed, always taking pride in the work he did. He loved music, making tapes of himself singing. He loved to paint and had many pictures he had painted, mostly outdoor scenes. Vance loved the Lord and was faithful to study the Bible. About 3 years ago his health began to decline and he has been dealing with health issues ever since. Lessie has been a dedicated care giver always taking care of his needs. He was concerned that all people would accept Jesus as their Saviour, and would live each day expecting Jesus to return and take us to be with Him. If anyone has not accepted Jesus as their Saviour, Today is the Day of Salvation, Now is the accepted Time. Vance has lived his life, he is now entered into eternal life, we want to be ready to join him. The family would like to thank everyone who has had a part in his life, those who have helped out in any way. Pray that we can live a life, pleasing to the Lord. We covet your prayers.
Surviving Vance are his wife, Lessie Suits Callicutt; daughter, Brenda Suits Portis of Thomasville, NC; 2 granddaughters, Diamond and Jessica Portis both of Thomasville, NC; sister, Helen Beane and brother, Donald Pap Callicutt both of Asheboro, NC and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his 3 brothers, Charles, Bobby, and Billy and 1 sister, Rachel.
