Van Duke Weeks, age 83, of 935 Uwharrie St., Asheboro died Thursday, March 6, 2008 at Randolph Hospital, Asheboro. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 8, 2008 at 1:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church, 420 West Walker Ave., Asheboro with Rev. Connie Weaver officiating. Burial will be follow in Randolph Memorial Park, Asheboro with Masonic Rites. Mr. Weeks was a native of Johnston County and was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He was employed as a supervisor for Dick Weeks Construction Company for 28 years and was retired as an Electrical Inspector in Brunswick County. Van was a member of First Presbyterian Church, a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge #699, and was a member of the Scottish Rite and Oasis Shrine Temple. As a young man, Mr. Weeks had a love of sports and played baseball with a passion. Later in life, golf became a constant along with a love of his yard and flowers. He is survived by his wife, Edna Earle Whitehurst Weeks; son, Steve Weeks and his wife Nancy of Lexington, NC; daughter, Sue Flynt and her husband Robert of Winston-Salem, NC; sisters, Susie B. Grasso and her husband Sam of Newport Beach, CA; Janie L. Garrett and her husband John of Phoenix, AZ; granddaughter, Caroline Ray and her husband Randall of Raleigh, NC; grandson, Stephen Weeks, Jr. and his wife Crissie of Kill Devil Hills, NC; grandson, Jonathan Weeks and his wife Christa of Lexington, NC; grandson, Chad A. Flynt and his wife Dr. Lynda Flynt of Memphis, NC; granddaughter, Erin Reynolds and her husband Chris of Charlotte, NC; grandson, Jamie Flynt and his wife Brooke of Winston-Salem, NC; 9 great grandchildren. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 7, 2008 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC. Memorials may be made to Shriner's Children's Hospital % Oasis Temple, PO Box 560666, Charlotte, NC 28256-0666 or to the charity of the donor's choice.
