Treva was a native of Randolph County born to Jonah Russell and Effie Vuncannon Parks on March 20, 1916. Although her family moved numerous times, they returned to Asheboro where Treva graduated from Asheboro High School in 1934. She was as an operator at Central Telephone Company where she met and married Van Neal in 1938. They were married 57 years until Van's death in 1995. Van and Treva were long-time members of Asheboro Friends Meeting, active for years in youth ministry, Sunday School, and Ministry and Council.
In 1955, Treva and a coworker from the Sears catalog store decided to open a clothing store catering to young women. That store, Teen Haven, remained a fixture in downtown Asheboro until it closed in 2002. Treva will be remembered by three generations of teens, mothers, and career women for the expertise, patience, and friendship created with her many loyal customers.
Treva is survived by her daughter Patricia Neal Rich of High Point, NC; son Larry Neal of Level Cross, NC; grandchildren Tracey Rich Perez and husband Lee of Charlotte, NC; Beth Rich Davis and husband Brian of Asheville, NC; Spencer Rich of Athens, GA; and Mike Neal of Ft. Myers, FL; great-grandchildren Joe Perez, Rocky Perez, Zeke Davis, Adam Davis and Van Davis.
Her family wishes to give special thanks to Deborah Shelton for her wonderful, loving care of Treva for the past three years; to steadfast friends Cynthia Pierce and Bert Maness; and to Dr. Robert Dough and his staff for their patience and kindness in guiding Treva and her family through the struggle of living to be 97 years old.
