James Robert "Tony" Brantley, age 69, of 1920 Stallion Trail, Asheboro died Saturday, June 6, 2009 at his home.Mr. Brantley was born May 30, 1940 in Asheboro, NC the son of James Leon and Christine Tucker Brantley. Mr. Brantley was a native of Asheboro and a graduate of Asheboro High School where he was co-caption of the 1959 Championship Football Team. In 2008, he was inducted, along with the entire football team, into the Asheboro High School Sports Hall of Fame. Tony retired from Sprint Telephone in 2000 and then worked for the City of Asheboro. He was preceded in death by his father James L. Brantley, Jr. and a brother, Donald Ray Brantley.He is survived by his wife: Johnsie Pierce Brantley, daughter: Jami Jon Brantley Moffitt and her husband, Gary of Greer, SC, son: James Robert Brantley, Jr. and his wife, Jennifer of Lexington, NC, mother: Christine Tucker Brantley of Asheboro, and the light of his life his grandson: James Ezekiel Brantley of Lexington, NC.The family will receive friends Monday, June 8, 2009 from 6:30-8:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC. The funeral will be Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro with Dr. Jim Perryman and Rev. Jonathan Shook officiating.Burial with military honors will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery, Asheboro.Memorials may be made to Hospice of Randolph, P.O.
