John Thomas "Tommy" McKenzie, 88, of Asheboro died Sunday, February 8, 2015 at his home.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 from 12:30-1:30 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Ave., Asheboro. Funeral service will follow on Wednesday at 2:00 pm at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Richard Crider officiating.
Mr. McKenzie was born to the late Raleigh W. and Debbie Leach McKenzie on January 5, 1927. Tommy was a 1944 graduate of Randleman High School. He served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
Tommy owned and operated Dixie Sheet Metal until his retirement in 1992 after which he still showed up for work most days until his health declined in 2014.
Tommy enjoyed wood working and working in his garden and loved his three grandchildren. Tommy attended Oakhurst Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, Tommy was preceded in death by his 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Wilma King McKenzie, sons, Barry McKenzie and wife Tammie of Welcome, Todd McKenzie and wife LouAnn of Asheboro; grandchildren, Kathryn and Ryan McKenzie of Welcome and Meredith McKenzie of Cary; and several nieces and nephews.
