Tommy Martin Harris

Tommy Martin Harris, age 68, of 1840 Brook Drive, Asheboro died Saturday, October 5, 2013 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at 11:00 AM at Mt. Calvary Independent Baptist Church, 1206 Oakland Avenue, Asheboro with Pastor Neil C. Poole and Pastor Chris Baker officiating. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery. Mr. Harris was born in Jacksonville, FL on February 4, 1945 to Walter and Mattie Heilig Harris. He was a former grocery store manager and was employed with Thomas Brothers Country Ham until his declining health forced his retirement. Tommy was one of the founding members of Mt. Calvary Independent Baptist Church which had its beginnings with services in his garage in 1988. He was also one of the first deacons and Sunday school superintendent of Mt. Calvary. In addition to his parents, Tommy was preceded in death by his brothers Walter (Buddy) Harris and Dexter E. Harris. He is survived by his wife, Rita Jo Harris; son, Mitchell D. Harris of Concord; sister, Linda Friddle of Randleman; and sister-in-law, Cathy Harris of Charlotte. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC. Memorials may be made to Mt.
