Tom M. Moore died peacefully at the Sunbridge Health and Rehabilitation Center in Asheboro NC, on January 19th, 2009, just days after celebrating his 83rd birthday with family. The family will receive friends at Pugh Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 21st, from 6-8 pm, and a Memorial Service will be held at Dogwood Acres Presbyterian Church on Thursday, January 22nd at 2pm. He was born January 16th, 1926, in Charlotte NC, to Dr. Oren and Louise Moore. A decorated veteran, he served in the US Army Air Corps as a crewmember aboard a B-29 aircraft in the South Pacific after the surrender of the Japanese government in World War II. After separating from the service, he attended North Carolina State University, earning a Bachelor's Degree in Textiles. He married his college sweetheart, the former Sarah Sue Clark of Valdese, NC, in 1954; they celebrated 53 yrs of marriage together in July of 2008. Predeceased by his parents and siblings Mary Moore Wood, Louise Moore Bilger and Oren Moore Jr., he is survived by his wife, Sarah (Sally) Moore of Asheboro, NC, and 3 children, Susan Moore Lockman of Charlotte, NC, Thomas Clark Moore of Montclair VA, and Virginia Louise Moore of Asheboro, NC; and 7 grandchildren. A lifelong employee of Burlington Industries, he worked as a computer programmer and systems analyst for plants in Roanoke Rapids, Cramerton and Asheboro, NC . While living in Belmont NC, he faithfully served the First Presbyterian Church as Deacon, Elder, Adult Sunday School Teacher and as a member on numerous committees. He also volunteered of his time to be a Scoutmaster for Troop 62 of Belmont, as well as volunteer with the swim team program at Pinebrook Swim Club. Upon retirement from Burlington, he worked as a software consultant/contractor, and as a volunteer at the Randolph Co. Hospital, accruing over 6000 hours of volunteer work and serving as the President of the Volunteer Organization several times. He was an avid military history buff, and enjoyed music, strategy games, science fiction, chess and visits to the North Carolina Mountains every chance he got. He was always quick with a story or an odd fact, and he will be dearly missed. Box 1048, Asheboro NC 27204-1048) or the Alzheimer's Disease Research Center (Duke University Medical Center, P.O. Box 3600, Durham NC 27710).
