Timothy Cortez Cox, age 47, of 2867 Spero Rd., Randleman died Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at Randolph Hospital, Asheboro.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 6, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home with Pastor Brett Sewell officiating. Burial will be held at a later date in the Salisbury National Cemetery.
Mr. Cox was a native of Asheboro and attended Level Cross Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran. While serving in the Navy, he was an Ordinance Officer from 1984-1989, was a U.S. Ranger in Whidbey Island, WA, was a member of the Color Guard, and was stationed in Japan, Korea, and Hawaii. He was formerly employed with Pinkerton Security Services where he was awarded "Officer of the Month" in January 1991 and received the Pinkerton Security award in 1994 for service above and beyond the call of duty. He was also formerly employed with Murray Guard where he received the "Officer of the Month" award in February 1996 and December 1997. He attended Randolph Community College and received a RCC Certificate of Recognition for being the first place winner in the 1998 Writers' Contest.
He is survived by his mother, Christine Cox of Asheboro; sister, Sharon Herronen and her husband Robert of Randleman; brother, Thomas Cox of Asheboro; and beloved nieces, Rebecca and Lexie Cox both of Asheboro.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 6, 2010 from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro.
