Thurman James McKinney, passed away Monday, January 17, 2011 at Graybrier Nursing and Retirement Center in Archdale, North Carolina after over a decade long battle with Alzheimer`s disease.
Funeral services will be held at 2pm, January 20, 2011 at the mausoleum at Randolph Memorial Park in Asheboro with Reverend Steve Pruitt officiating. Entombment will follow immediately after the service.
Mr. McKinney was born August 5, 1930 in Asheboro, Randolph County, North Carolina to the late Elisha McKinney and late Ethel Woodell McKinney. He was the manager of Sea King Restaurant in Asheboro until his retirement in 1989.
In addition to his parents, Mr. McKinney was preceded in death by his brother, Curtis Woodell, and sisters Margaret Johns and Emir Coltrane.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mozelle Bullins McKinney of Randleman; son, Mike McKinney and his wife, Monica of Durham; daughters, Gail Wells and her husband David of Archdale, Rhonda Bullard and her husband Brad of High Point, Kim McLaughlin and her husband Derrick of Asheboro; brother, Leonard McKinney; sisters, Audrey McKinnon, Mary Routh, Alice Smith, Helen Frye; grandchildren, Dana Wells Layne and her husband Chris, Sarah Wells Parker and her husband Brandon, Tiffany McLaughlin, Joshua McLaughlin and Kellan McKinney; great grandchildren Thomas and Andrew Layne, Emily and Matthew Parker.
The family will receive friends from 6pm - 8pm January 19, 2011 at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro.
Mr. McKinney`s family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Graybrier, Sea Unit, for their comfort, love and friendship. The care and support of Thurman and his family during the past five years helped ease the loss of our beloved family member. The family also wishes to express thanks to our friends for their continued support during his illness.
