Thurman James Allen

Thurman James Allen, age 84, of 232 Allen Forest Lane, Mt. Gilead died Saturday, June 18, 2011 at Autumn Care Nursing & Rehabilitation, Biscoe. Mr. Allen was born October 1, 1926 in High Point, NC, the son of William John and Mary Davis Allen. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Troy and former member and deacon of Conrad Memorial Baptist Church of High Point. He was a World War II US Army veteran having received the WWII Victory Medal and the Occupation Medal for Japan. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alta Haywood Allen and great-grandson Aaron Allen. He is survived by one son: David Allen and wife Pamela of Mt. Gilead; one daughter: Christy Allen of Mt. Gilead; two sisters: Frances Allen of Burlington, Colleen A. Vaughn and husband, Bob of High Point; sister-in-laws: Stella H. Garner and Helen Haywood, both of Mt. Gilead; grandson, William Watson of Florida; granddaughter: Jane Watson of Mt Gilead; grandson: Chad Allen of Albemarle; granddaughter, Heather Allen Snuggs of Mt. Gilead; great-granddaughters: Caroline Snuggs and Isabella Saunders, both of Mt. Gilead; great-granddaughters: Abby Lavoie and Ashlyn Allen, both of Albemarle; several nieces, nephews and cousins. The family will receive friends Monday from 6-8 pm at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, 211 North Main Street, Troy; other times at the home of David and Pamela Allen. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11:00 am at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home with Dr. Phillips McRae officiating. Burial will be in Haywood Family Cemetery, Chip Road, Mt. Gilead.
