Thomas Edwin "Ed" Ellis, 92, of Asheboro passed away on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at his home.
Mr. Ellis was born in Ramseur, NC on March 11, 1925 to Joe and Daphne Ellis.
Mr. Ellis was a member of Central United Methodist Church. He proudly served in the US Navy during WWII. Ed attended Elon College and was inducted into the Elon Phoenix Hall of Fame for Baseball. He played baseball for the McCrary Eagles.
Ed contributed to the re-development and coached the Post 45 American Legion team in the late '50's. He coached youth baseball at several levels and continued to be an avid baseball fan, listening to games on the radio.
Ed was formerly employed as Personnel Director with Acme-McCrary Corporation and Belk, and was retired from Nantucket Hosiery.
In addition to his parents, Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Neal Ellis, and siblings, Harold Ellis, Kathryn Ellis Bray, and Jack Ellis.
He is survived by his daughters, Teresa (Ronnie) Pugh of Asheboro, and Debra (Mike) Manring of Randleman; son, Tom (Mary Sam) Ellis of Kings Mountain; grandchildren, Aaron (Haley) Pugh, Tyson (Collins) Pugh, Derek (Taylor) Pugh, Brad (Brittany) Manring, Sara Manring and fiancee Josh Bingham, Tripp Ellis, Marybeth (Jared) Boyd, and Katie Ellis; great grandchildren, Sawyer and Jackson Pugh, Frances and Henry Pugh, and Brooks and Conner Pugh; brothers-in-law, Worth (Frankie) McDonald of Raleigh and Buddy Baker of Carthage; sister-in-law, Jean Bennett of Southern Pines; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Wanda Stout, Tyler Speagle, Donna Gallimore, Doris Brinkley, Nancy Bunch and staff of Clapp's Mountain Top for their love and care.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at 10:00 am at Randolph Memorial Park with Dr. J.F. Howard officiating and with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard. Following the service the family will receive friends in the Central United Methodist Church Family Life Center, 300 South Main Street, Asheboro.
