Thomas Rudolph Butt, 78 passed away Thursday, November 29, 2007 at his home with his family.
Thomas Butt was a Quaker minister serving in North Carolina Yearly Meeting of Friends for 44 years. He retired in 2000. He began serving NCYM in 1956 as a student pastor at Concord Friends meeting, while attending Guilford College. Subsequent meetings served were Bethesda, Centre, Hunting Creek, Providence, Liberty, Somerton, Chatham, and Jamestown Friends Meetings. He also served in many leadership roles with NCYM. Among his interests were reading, gardening, cooking, birdwatching and woodworking. Many homes throughout the country and Kenya, Africa have items ranging from whistles, baby cradles, puzzles, furniture, etc., that he made in his woodworking shop.
He was preceded in death by his father, Issac C. Butt, and his mother, Margaret Monds Butt.
He is survived by his wife: Mary R. Butt; son, Thomas R. Butt, daughter, Phyllis B Gibbs and husband, Tom; and daughter, Anne B Caudle and husband, Scott. He is survived by one sister, Shirley Spivey, and six grandchildren, Matt Butt; Ike Gibbs and wife, Karly; Sarah Butt; mary Beth B. Wilkerson and husband, Michael; Jennifer G. nunn and husband, Eric; and Jessi C. Burns and husband, Mike. Surviving also are four great grandchildren, Natalie Gibbs, Owen Gibbs, Carrie Nunn, and Henry Gibbs.
The family will receive visitors Saturday, December 1, 2007 from 7 - 9 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 600 South Main Street, Randleman, NC.
The family wishes to acknowledge their deepest appreciation for Dr. Brad Sherrill, Kelly Mosher, P.A., the Randolph Cancer Center and Hospice of Randolph County.
Funeral service will be held on Sunday, December 2, 2007 at 2:30 at Centre Friends Meeting, 325 NC Hwy 62, Greensboro.
