Theresa "Terri" Hughes Hamilton, 60 and resident of Sunset Beach, died Sunday, July 31, 2016 at the Randolph Hospice House of Asheboro. The daughter of David and Rebecca Hughes, Terri was born July 21, 1956 in Astoria, Oregon. A lifelong resident of Asheboro, she had over 20 years in the Asheboro City School System, including being named "Teacher of the Year" for the district in 1997. Terri retired from the Brunswick County School System as a media coordinator after teaching for over 35 years in North Carolina.
Terri's greatest gift was her passion: her passion for children, family, friends and education, for joy and for life. Her belief was that every child was special and warranted love and attention. Her legacy will continue through the lives of all the children that she inspired throughout the years.
Predeceased by her brother, David Auman Hughes, Jr. She is survived by her husband, Alvin L. "Butch" Hamilton; son, Christopher Watson and his wife Emily of Nashville, NC; parents, David and Rebecca Hughes, Sr.; sister, Jane Redding and her husband Scott of Asheboro; step-son, Brian T. Hamilton and his fiancé, Donna; and granddaughter, Brittany Hamilton. In addition to her immediate family, she is survived by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends that she considered family.
The family will receive friends at the visitation on August 2, 2016 from 6:00pm - 8:00pm at Pugh Funeral Home in Asheboro. The memorial service will be at 11:00am on August 3, 2016 at Central United Methodist Church. Friends and family are welcome to visit other times at her parents' home, 1009 Cliff Road, Asheboro, NC.
As Terri's true passion was children, particularly those who had needs, we ask for donations in her memory to Communities in Schools (1011 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC 27203) or Hospice of Randolph County (416 Vision Drive, Asheboro, NC 27203), to thank them for the wonderful care she received.
