Thelma Batten Epps

Thelma Batten Epps, age 92, of Troy died Monday, August 19, 2013 at First Health Hospice and Palliative Care, Pinehurst. Thelma was born July 31, 1921 at Thomasville, NC the daughter of Claude F and Nannie Victoria Lamonds Batten. She was an active member of Laurel Hill Baptist Church. Thelma owned and operated Thelma's Uniform Shop for 30-plus years. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, James Epps, sons, Jimmy Epps and Keith "Stickman" Epps; and several siblings. She is survived by two daughters: Vickie "Nannie" V. Hinton of Mt. Gilead, Joyce Diane Cassell of Woodstock, GA; one son: Wade Randal Epps of Troy; two sisters: Elaine Batten Burgess and Janie Batten Parnell, both of Troy. The family will receive friends Thursday, August 22, 2013 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Laurel Hill Baptist Church, 1569 Troy Candor Road, Candor. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 pm at Laurel Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Julian Crooks and Rev. Grady Blakely officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
