Tammy Cromer, 61, went to be with the Lord suddenly on March 1, 2025, at Randolph Health Hospital in Asheboro, NC.
Tamela “Tammy” Leigh Hooker Cromer was born on December 26, 1963, to William Clarkston and Ruby Carol Brewer Hooker. She grew up the only girl in a family of three children and was playfully known as “Hook” prior to getting married. Tammy met the love of her life, Christopher Cromer, whom she married at her home church, Antioch Baptist Church, on June 27, 1993. Tammy was a dedicated church member who embodied many roles, including Sunday School teacher, church clerk, as well as overseeing the church’s youth program.
Aside from being active in her church family, Tammy was passionate about extending kindness to the local homeless community. She donated food and clothing to them with regularity, especially in the cold winter months, when she would purchase new outerwear in bulk to be given to those in need. Tammy was similarly devoted to helping animals who were less fortunate. She had a truly compassionate spirit, always working to reunite lost pets with their owners, and finding good homes for those without. Her most beloved pet was her dog, Penelope. Tammy’s actions were heartfelt and selfless. She was affectionately known for years by many friends and family members as “Tooty”. Her adoring husband lovingly referred to her as “Tob” since the beginning of their marriage, a result of an inside joke they both got a kick out of. “Tooty” had a wonderful sense of humor, she loved to laugh and had a happy disposition by nature. She often enjoyed playing games or a round of cards with loved ones.
Tammy was an avid lover of flowers. She loved to plant ornate blooms and collect them whenever she could. Her Celebration of Life service will take place at 2:00pm on Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Antioch Baptist Church, 148 Drum St. Asheboro, NC 27205. It is asked that everyone attending Tammy’s service come dressed brightly, in beautiful spring colors, including flowers if possible!
Tammy was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, William Tyson “Ty” Hooker, her grandparents, and her aunt, Sybill Brown.
She is survived by her doting husband, Christopher Cromer, along with their girl Penelope, brother, Randy Hill (Tammy) of Randleman, sister-in-law, Julie Overton of Asheboro, mother-in-law Patricia Walker (Larry) of Asheboro, several nieces and nephews, uncles, Dwight Hooker (Maggie) of Asheboro, Johnny Hooker (Kelly) of Ramseur, Odell Brown of Eagle Springs, aunt, Ann Walker (Richard) of Newton, and a great many special friends who loved Tammy dearly.
Tammy will forever be cherished by those who knew her. Pugh Funeral Home in Asheboro is honored to be serving the Cromer Family during this time.
