Mrs. Susan Elizabeth Freeman Bossong, wife of Charlie Bossong, died at her home in Asheboro on Thursday, November 6, 2008. Funeral services will be at the First United Methodist Church Sunday afternoon at 2:30 with the Reverends Michael Holder, Susan Mitchell and John Ogburn officiating. Burial will follow at Oaklawn Cemetery. Susan was born January 24, 1934 and was the daughter of the late Dr. and Mrs. Alton Brooks Freeman of Randleman, NC. She is a graduate of Salem Academy, attended Randolph Macon Woman`s College and graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a BA degree in English and was a member of Phi Mu Sorority. Susan was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she served on the Altar Guild. She was twice a Regent of the Colonel Andrew Balfour Chapter of the DAR. Through the years Susan served as president of the Asheboro Public Library Foundation and the Sorosis Book Club and was a member of the Historical Book Club of NC. In addition to her husband of 52 years, she is survived by two children; Brooks Freeman Bossong and his wife, Catherine of Winston-Salem and Elizabeth Julian Bossong Russell and her husband, Ward of Asheboro. She is also survived by nine grandchildren; Avery, Mallory, and Brooks Bossong; Ward, George, and Camille Russell; and Emma, Rachel, and Kate Bossong of Chattanooga TN. She was preceded in death by her sons; Charles George Bossong and Samuel Lorenz Bossong, and her brother, Alton Brooks Freeman, Jr. The family will receive friends at Pugh Funeral Home in Asheboro on Saturday evening from 7 until 9. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Randolph County, P.O. Box 9, Asheboro, NC 27204, Randolph/Asheboro Y.M.C.A., P.O. Box 1152, Asheboro, NC 27204 and the Asheboro Public Library Foundation, P.O. Box 1601, Asheboro, NC 27204. The family would like to express their greatest gratitude to Drs. Jim Deterding and Richard Fox and their staff at Carolina Kidney Associates, Dr. Chris McCarty and her staff at Randolph Cancer Center, and the staff at Hospice of Randolph County. They would also like to thank Susan`s sister- and brother-in-law, Peggy and Joe Bossong for many delicious meals and ongoing support, Donna and Bessie, and their many other wonderful friends.
