Charles Stephen "Steve" Welch, age 67, of Asheboro died Wednesday, September 16, 2009 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.A celebration of life service will be held on Sunday, September 20, 2009 at 3:00 PM at West Bend United Methodist Church, 1080 Albemarle Road, Asheboro with Rev. Drew McIntyre and Gary Mason officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery.Mr. Welch was a native and life long resident of Asheboro and a 1960 graduate of Asheboro High School. He attended Elon College and was a graduate of Asheboro Business College. He was retired after 39 years of service with the City of Asheboro Municipal Golf Course as the PGA Golf Professional. Steve was a lifetime member of the PGA of America and was the Asheboro City Amateur Director. He was a huge Duke Basketball fan and supporter of all the sports his grandchildren participated in. As a member of West Bend United Methodist Church Steve served on several committees, was a member of the Baby Boomers Sunday school class and was an usher.Steve had a zest and love for life. His warm smile brightened the entire room when he entered and he touched many lives, young and old. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and always put his family first in his life.He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Brenda Thompson Welch; son, Chuck Welch and his wife Toni of Asheboro, NC; grandchildren, Chas Welch, Cameron Welch, and Caden Welch all of Asheboro, NC; brother, Cliff Welch of Tampa, FL; father-in-law, Glenn Thompson of Burlington, NC.The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 19, 2009 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC and other times at the home of Chuck and Toni Welch, 858 Wellington Place, Asheboro.
