Stephen James Dix, age 63, of 2495 Winding Woods Lane, Asheboro finished his battle with cancer and passed away Wednesday morning, September 28, 2011 at Randolph Hospice House, Asheboro.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 1, 2011 at 2:00 pm at First E & R United Church of Christ with Rev. Dale Kennedy and Rev. Carol Dyson officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Canaan Methodist Church Cemetery in Denton.
Mr. Dix was born June 5, 1948 in Asheboro to James Walter and Elizabeth Kizer Dix. He enjoyed a happy childhood with his brother and their many pets. His fondest memories were of the family beach trips each summer and his father teaching him surf fishing. He loved the outdoors and exploring his neighborhood as a child with his friends. It was there that he started collecting arrowheads and old coins. Steve graduated from Asheboro High School, served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam Era and was a member of First E & R United Church of Christ. He had a love and enthusiasm for cars especially BMW's and was the part owner of Import Auto Service in the late seventies.
He was employed with Sara Lee Corporation and always enjoyed the textile industry and the fulfillment that it brought him during his career. The last fourteen years were spent sharing his knowledge and love of antiques, coins, guns and other collectibles as General Manager of Treasure World Inc. in Asheboro.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Smith Dix; daughter: Kimberly Dix Choate and her husband Randy of Glade Valley, NC; sons, Mark Harris of Randleman, Stephen James Dix, Jr. and his wife Kimberly of Pompano Beach, FL; parents, Walter James and Elizabeth Kiser Dix of Asheboro, NC; grandchildren, Laura Ann Vanhoy, Wesley Dix Vanhoy, Larkin James Dix; great grandchild, Maelyn Ann Vanhoy; brother, Walt Dix and his wife Betty Dix of Asheboro.
The family will receive friends Friday, September 30, 2011 from 5:00-8:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC.
