Stafford L. Starcher, Sr., died at Cross Road Retirement Center, November 12, 2014.
Born in Big Chimney, West Virginia, he lived in Dalton, Georgia until age 20 when he came to Asheboro.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, having been the first draftee from Randolph County, and served under General Patton. He received purple heart, bronze star, and the oakleaf cluster from the Army.
He was employed by Union Carbide until his retirement after 34 years.
He enjoyed gardening and watching Carolina Tarheel basketball and Atlanta Braves baseball. He loved to share the bounty of his garden with family, friends, and neighbors.
He was a devout Christian and loved his church family at Neighbors Grove. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his wife, of 61 years, Annie Hunt Starcher; daughter, Pamela Anne Starcher, grandson, Alex Drummond Lecznar, son-in-law, Phillip C. Poole, three sisters and one brother.
He is survived by daughters, Gayle Drummond and husband Douglas of Nags Head, NC, Shirley Beane and husband Tommy of Asheboro, NC, son, Stafford Starcher, Jr., and wife Linda of Sarasota, Florida; grandsons, Daniel Drummond of Nags Head, NC, Chad Starcher and wife Julie Ann of Winterville, NC, Jason Starcher and wife Angela of Farmville, NC, Zachery Starcher of Winterville, NC; granddaughters, Dana Lecznar of Florence, SC, Lisa Mason and husband D.J. of Clemmons, NC, Amy Poole of Asheboro, NC, Megan Roberson and husband Clay of Winterville, NC; great grandsons, Christopher Lecznar of Richmond, VA, Phillip Mason of Clemmons, NC, Ryan Mason of Clemmons, NC, Kolby Starcher of Winterville, NC; and great granddaughter, Preslie Roberson.
The visitation will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2014 from 11:30 am-1:30 pm at Neighbors Grove Wesleyan Church, 1928 N. Fayetteville St., Asheboro, NC. Funeral services will follow on Saturday at 2:00 pm at Neighbors Grove Wesleyan Church. Interment will be held at Randolph Memorial Park with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard.
The family would like to thank the staff at Cross Road Retirement Center and Hospice of Randolph for the dedication and service Mr. Starcher received while in their care.
