Shirley Ruth Yow

Shirley Ruth James Yow, age 78, of 926 Sequoia Ave., Asheboro and formerly of Seagrove, died Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Randolph Hospital. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 1, 2013 from 12:30-1:30 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC. Funeral services will follow on Monday at 2:00 PM at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Tim Pheagin officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery in Seagrove. Mrs. Yow was born in Taylorsville, NC on March 31, 1934 to Bynum and Sadie Mitchell James, the youngest of 10 siblings. She was the valedictorian of the class of 1952 at Seagrove High School and also of her graduating class at the Randolph Community College Nursing School. Shirley was employed as a postal carrier in the early 1970's and was formerly employed with Mid-State Plastics. She was a nurse, employed as a caregiver in home health care. She had been the owner/operator of Nostalgia on Church Street since 1986. In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband Hayden Clement Yow and daughter Pamela Elizabeth Yow. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John and Amy R. Yow of Orangeburg, SC; daughters, Amy M. Yow of Clemmons, NC and Cynthia Y. Turner; grandchildren, Hayden Gowland and Harrison Gowland; and special niece Barbara Underwood of Sophia, NC.
