Shirley Ann Barefoot Cox, age 84, of Asheboro passed away on Thursday, January 26, 2017 at the Randolph Hospice House.
Mrs. Cox was born in Clinton, NC on March 17, 1932 to Hugie and Martha Wynn Barefoot. She was retired from the textile industry after 20 years of service. She was a member of Balfour Baptist Church. In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years James Brice Cox and her son Ronnie Cox. Shirley enjoyed traveling with her husband, gardening, her church, cooking for others, caring for her flowers, especially Gerber Daisies and Azaleas, and her friends. She loved watching golf, basketball-especially the Carolina teams, and bowling. She loved all of her grandchildren and great grandchildren very much especially her grandson Brian who was like a son to her.
She is survived by her son, Rickey Cox and wife Beth of New London; grandchildren, Mark James Cox of Honolulu, HI, Ethan Alexander Cox of New London, Hugh Brian Cox and wife Tara of Asheboro, Alysia Widner of Ramseur; great grandchildren, Travis, Allison, Brittany, Krista, Jacob, and Noah; and sister, Ida Jane Sutton and husband Charles of Warsaw.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 29, 2017 at 3:00 pm at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro with Rev. Gary Mason officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
