Shelby Jean Trotter Cannon

Shelby Jean Trotter Cannon, age 88, of Asheboro passed away on February 10, 2025 at her home.

Mrs. Cannon was born in Randolph County on November 20, 1936 to Charles and Lola Albright Trotter. Shelby was a longtime member of West Asheboro Baptist Church. She was formerly employed with Sew Special and Dorlan Hosiery. She received her cosmetology degree, worked as a hairdresser, and had her own wallpaper business. In addition to her parents, Shelby was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Cannon, brother, Charles L. Trotter, and sister, Reba T. Hayes. Shelby was an avid reader and also used to enjoy crocheting, cross stitching, and painting. She was a great cook and was known for her hot dog chili. Shelby loved spending time with her grandchildren and going to the beach and Badin Lake with her family. 

She is survived by her son, Randy Joe Cannon (Sharon) of Asheboro; daughters, Karen Cannon Raines (Jerry) of Asheboro and Bernadette Lambeth of Asheboro; sister-in-law, Jackie Cannon of High Point; 6 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Monday, February 17, 2025 from 10:30 am-12 noon at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro. Funeral services will follow on Monday at 1:00 pm at West Asheboro Baptist Church, 831 Uwharrie Street in Asheboro with Rev. Tommy Kidd officiating. Burial will be held at Oaklawn Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all her special friends who visited her often and to all who cared for her at Clapp’s Convalescent Nursing Home and Gentiva Hospice.
