Sara Foster Dodson, affectionately know as "Mamma D" joined her Savior on June 21, 2011. Sara passed away peacefully at the age of 84, at The Meadowlands Hospice of Hillsborough.
Sara was born on November 19, 1926 in Greensboro, NC. She graduated from Elon College in 1951 with a degree in Religious Education, where she met her late husband Reverend Sam Dodson. Sara and Sam raised two beautiful daughters. She later relocated to Burlington, NC where she has lived with her sister, Melva for the past 33 years. She was a member of Elon Community Church. Sara was a loving sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Many knew her as a painter, ceramics artist and teacher. She was revered by all who knew her.
Sara was preceded in death by her mother and father, Samuel and Ersley Foster. She is survived by two daughters, Janet Hudson and her husband David of Durham, Rebecca Franklin and her husband Gene of Durham; five grandchildren, Geoff Hamm and his wife JoJo, Jennifer Weaver and her husband Jon, Jessica Arnold and her husband Ed, Steve Franklin and his wife Liz, Chris Franklin and his girlfriend Tracy Kivett; five great grandchildren, Jace and Jamie Hamm, Sam and Maggie Weaver, Maddox Arnold; one sister, Melva Foster of Burlington.
Sara will be honored at a Graveside service at Spoons Chapel Christian Church Cemetery, Asheboro, NC on Friday, June 24, 2011 at 2:00 pm with Rev. Randy Orwig and Rev. Mark Stephens officiating. Family will receive guests following the service at the Spoons Chapel Fellowship Hall.
