Samuel Henry Edwards

d. April 3, 2011

Samuel Henry Edwards passed away peacefully on April 3, 2011 after a two-year battle with cancer. His unshakable faith and indomitable spirit were known to all around him. Even in the midst of his battle, Sam could often be found hiking in the Uwharries or spending time outdoors. A jack-of-all-trades, Sam never encountered a task he couldn't master, whether as a mechanic, a carpenter, an electrician, or a plumber. He was known to many in the community through his 30-year career at Ritchie Auto Parts. A true NC State and Baltimore Orioles fan, Sam enjoyed every sport, from tennis to NASCAR. Sam loved God, his family and his country. He served as a Marine during the Vietnam War until he was honorably discharged after injury. He was a native of Elm City, NC and a graduate of Richmond Community College. Sam is survived by a son, Samuel Matthew, wife Lark, and granddaughter Genevieve Edwards; daughter, Heather and husband Jim Kenney; brother, Pat and wife Twyla Edwards and family; his former wife, Brenda Jones; father-in-law, Lester Greene and brother-in-law Lester "J" and wife Sandra Greene. Sam was preceded in death by a sister, Jayne and parents, George Albert and Ella Mae Edwards. A memorial service with military honors will be held Saturday at 2 pm at Biscoe Christian Church, West Main Street, Biscoe, NC. The family will receive friends immediately afterwards. Details will be provided at the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The N.C. Division of Parks and Recreation, 1615 MSC, Raleigh, NC 27699 or to Hospice & Palliative Care Center of Alamance-Caswell, 918 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215. Arrangements by Pugh-Troy Funeral Home.
