Sadie Cagle Hughes, age 100, of Asheboro passed away on Sunday, February 21, 2016 at the Randolph Hospice House.
Ms. Hughes was born in Montgomery County, NC on April 9, 1915 to Rufus Franklin and Ida Lilly Auman Cagle and grew up in the Ether/Steeds Community. She was a graduate of Star High School. Sadie was retired from Pinehurst Textiles after 43 years of service. In addition to her parents, Sadie was preceded in death by her brothers, Cecil and Eugene Cagle and her son-in-law, Donnie Hammer. Sadie was very caring and loving mother and grandmother. Friends and family were always greeted with her kind smile and familiar, unmistakable laughter. She was giver not a taker. Sadie was always eager to do a favor or lend a hand. Sadie was an unselfish woman who never hesitated to give of herself, even when she herself had very few material luxuries.
She is survived by her daughter, Cerelda Hughes Hammer and husband Ray Hopper of Asheboro; granddaughter, Suzanne Cox Smith and husband Jonathon of Franklinton; great grandson, Grady Smith; sister, Audrey Brooks of Asheboro; sister-in-law, Mae Cagle of Seagrove; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 from 12:00-1:30 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro and other times at the home of her daughter, 1346 Middleton Circle, Asheboro. Funeral services will follow on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at the Randolph Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, 4538 US Hwy 220 Bus. North, Asheboro with Chaplain Tim Pheagin officiating.
