Maggie Ruth Wright Phillips, 98, of Asheboro, died on April 21, 2013 at Crossroads Retirement Community. Ruth, daughter of Edgar Lee and Dora West Wright, was born November 22, 1914. In addition to her parents, her husband Glenn A. (Monk) Phillips preceded her in death in January 1967. She was the last surviving member of her family, preceded in death by sisters; Ruby Hemphill, Hazel Hoover, Lois Harris, and brothers: Bernard, Dewey, Earl, Newpert, Oren and Wade Wright.
Ruth was a founding member of Asheboro United Church of Christ. She was a homemaker and avid gardener. She leaves to cherish her memory a son Bernard F. Phillips and wife Artie of Asheboro, and a daughter, Glenda P. Norford and husband Walker of Waynesboro, Virginia; grandchildren Brad Phillips, Heather Spencer and husband Buddy of Asheboro, Steve Norwood and wife Cyndy of Reston, Virginia, and Jeff Norford and wife Sherri of Waxhaw, North Carolina; great grandchildren, Lillie Justice, Caden, Campbell, Landon, Michael and Sara Norford; step-great grandchildren, Makayla, Maddie and Andrew Spencer.
The family will receive friends and family Wednesday, April 24, 2013 from 10:00-10:45 AM at Asheboro United Church of Christ, 801 Sunset Ave., Asheboro. A memorial service conducted by Reverend Tom Benedict and Reverend Carol Dyson will immediately follow the reception, followed by a private burial service in the Asheboro City Cemetery.
