Ruth Henkel Maxey, age 82, of Asheboro passed away on January 9, 2025 at Randolph Hospice House.
Mrs. Maxey was born in Harmon, VA on September 29, 1942 to Robert and Frances Lowe Henkel. Ruth was employed as a CNA and was often stopped in Walmart by former patients’ families who wished to express their gratitude for the wonderful care she had given to them. Ruth loved the Lord and was a member of North Asheboro Church of God. In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Sidney Maxey and her sister, Jean White. Ruth was a loving wife and mother, but being a grandmother was her favorite job. Ruth loved sunrises and sunsets. She enjoyed doing crafts, quilting, and writing. She loved the beach, and even at the age of 80 she still wanted the adventure of seeing the horses at Shackelford Banks.
She is survived by her sons, James Maxey (Cheryl) of Hillsborough and Joseph Maxey (Kelly) of Wendell; daughters, Joy Coggins (Danny) of Asheboro and Gina Roberson (Joe) of Asheboro; and six grandchildren, Christopher, Andrew, and Riley Roberson, Madeline and Seth Coggins, and Hazel Maxey.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, January 18, 2025 from 12 noon-1:45 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro. Funeral services will follow on Saturday at 2:00 pm at the Glenn ”Mac” Pugh Chapel. Burial will be held at Randolph Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Randolph Hospice House, 416 Vision Dr., Asheboro, NC 27203.
