Ruth Lorene Brown Ingold age 90 went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, May 1st, at Woodland Hill Care & Rehabilitation, Asheboro.
Mrs. Ingold was born on September 10, 1924, the daughter of the late Eugene Elliot Brown and Lena Allred Brown of Sophia. Her same birthdate was later shared with her youngest grandson, Beau, who was born on September 10, 1983.
Mrs. Ingold called Randolph County home for all of her life. Growing up in the north Asheboro area, she attended Balfour School and Balfour Baptist Church. She was a graduate of Asheboro High School in 1941.
On July 4, 1942 in a double wedding ceremony, she was married to Merrill T. Ingold of Randolph County, and Glenn M. Lineberry and Hilda L. Ingold were married in the same ceremony. The couple settled in the north Asheboro area where they worked, attended church, and raised their family. Mr. and Mrs. Ingold were honored to be charter members of two churches – Red Cross Baptist Church in Climax in 1949, and Forest Park Baptist Church in Randleman in 1965. Mrs. Ingold resided at the same residence for over 65 years. She was employed with Laughlin Hosiery Mills of Randleman for over 20 years. In 1980, Mrs. Ingold began working as a teacher's assistant with her niece, Sarah H. McCoy, at Randleman Elementary School. She loved her time there with the children and Mrs. McCoy and the teaching staff. She was able to be on staff there until she retired.
After 52 years of marriage, Mrs. Ingold was preceded in death by her husband, Merrill. Mrs. Ingold has lost in death four of her seven brothers and sisters - Bertha Brown, Edna Brown Hodgin, Luther E. Brown and Gladys Brown Herlocker, all of Randolph County. She is survived by two brothers, Colon and David Brown and sister, Violet Brown Cox, all of Sophia.
Mrs. Ingold is survived by her son, Gilbert Merrill Ingold, and his wife, Johnnie Wood Ingold, of Greensboro, formerly of Asheboro and her daughter, Kathy Ingold McElreath, of Sanford, as well as by four grandchildren and their spouses - John and Aggie Dix Ingold of Asheboro; Joey and Dana Ingold Tillman of Greensboro; Thadd and Jamie Bridges McElreath of Sanford; Beau and Elizabeth Coble McElreath of Sanford. She has seven great grandchildren – Addison, Jessica, Ryan, Lila, John Finley, Jude and Meryl.
The family will receive friends Monday, May 4th, from 12:30 pm to 1:45 pm at the Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC. The funeral will be immediately following the reception in the Chapel of the Funeral Home. Dr. Rob Roberts will be officiating the service. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park.
