Ruth Brower Cothran, age 87, of Asheboro died peacefully on Friday, December 26, 2014 at Wesley Long Community Hospital, Greensboro.
Born and raised in Asheboro on December 4, 1927, she worked for 36 years as a tax collector at the Randolph Tax Department. She was a member of First E & R United Church of Christ of Asheboro. Ruth was a talented artist, drawing portraits and painting in oils. She loved to be outdoors, feeling close to God, so she spent many hours gardening or walking in woods. She also loved music and dancing.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Curt and Annie Brower, first husband, Nelson Harrill, her second husband Charles Cothran, and 8 siblings: Golden Durham, Edith Richardson, Selma Thornburg, Lottie Hollingsworth, Ola Mae Snow, Milton Brower, Melvin Brower, and James Brower. .
She is survived by daughters Jan Harrill of Greensboro, NC, and Patricia Harrill of Derbyshire, England; stepdaughters Diane Henry (Mike Henry), Autumn Roberts, and stepgrandson Greg Henry. Her greatest joys were her granddaughter Jennifer Brantley of Greensboro, NC, and grandson Michael Brantley of Asheboro, NC. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Kate Brower and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 30, 2014 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC. The funeral will be Tuesday at 2:00 PM in the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro with Dr. Edward E. Lindsey officiating. Burial will follow at Randolph Memorial Park, Asheboro.
Ruth had a great love for animals, so in lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Randolph Animal Shelter, or other memorial of your choice.
