Ruth Boroughs Cockerham, 93, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday, February 23, 2016.
Born on April 6, 1922 at home in Seagrove, NC to the late William & Ola Freeman Boroughs, she graduated from Seagrove High School and was a member of Balfour Baptist church for 58 years where she sang in the Adult Choir, taught Sunday School & made weekly visits to the church shut ins until her health declined. She retired from Acme-McCrary after 30 years as Quality Control Supervisor.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years Neal Cockerham & also, two brothers, Lewis & Hal Boroughs & three sisters, Phyllis Boroughs, Lois Bulla & Wilma Amick.
She is survived by children Linda Cockerham of Asheboro, Susan Ballard(Wiley) of Hickory & Mike Cockerham(Anne) of Wilmington; grandchildren: Keisha Akers(John) of Matthews, Beau Eckard(Jenny) of Hickory, Matt Cockerham(English) of Wilmington, & Josh Cockerham of Wilmington; great-grandchildren Owen, Olivia, Harrison & Hines Akers of Matthews; Braxton & Brody Eckard of Hickory; Walker & Bryson Cockerham of Wilmington. Also, by marriage; Ann Hinson(Greg) & McCray Hinson of Clayton & Johnna Harrelson of Whiteville.
The celebration of her life will be at Balfour Baptist Church on Sat., Feb. 27th at 1 o'clock where she will lie in state for 30 minutes prior to service. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetary where the family will receive friends.
