Ruth Varner Byrd

Hope Ruth Varner Byrd, age 94, of Asheboro passed away January 31, 2022 at home.

Mrs. Byrd was born April 1, 1927 to Henry and Mary Agnes Varner.  She was retired from Acme-McCrary Corporation in Asheboro.  Ruth was a member of Rushwood Park Church and attended as long as she was able.  She loved making people laugh.  Christmas and Halloween were always lively occasions at her house.

Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Byrd, sister, Gladys Roberson, brothers, Rev. Hal Varner, Everett Varner and Homer Varner.

She is survived by her son, Garrett Byrd (Mamie) of Asheboro; grandsons, Mark Byrd (Amanda) of Denton, Jason Byrd of Asheboro, Tina Byrd of Asheboro; great granddaughter, Taylor Midgette (Chris) of Raleigh; great grandsons, Chase Byrd of Asheboro and Braydon Byrd of Denton; and great great grandson, Eli Midgette of Raleigh.

Ruth will lie in repose Thursday, February 3, 2022 from 11:00 am-12:30 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue in Asheboro.  A graveside service will follow on Thursday at 1:00 pm at Oaklawn Cemetery with the Reverend Brent Tysinger officiating.
