Ruth Register Allen

Ruth Allen, age 74, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, August 2 at High Point Regional Hospital. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Asheboro at 2:00PM on Friday, August 5, 2011. The family will receive friends at Pugh Funeral Home on Thursday, August 4, 2011 from 6:00 until 8:00 PM. Mrs. Allen was born on September 11, 1936 in Clinton, NC to the late James and Myrtle Register. She graduated from Duke University and earned her nursing degree from Duke University School of Nursing in 1958. She moved to Asheboro in 1967 when she married Jim Allen. Ruth was a devoted wife, mother, friend and grandmother. She was very active in the life of First Presbyterian Church, Asheboro where she was an elder, a Sunday school teacher, a member of the choir and a visionary for the church. She helped to start the Stephen Ministry program in 1998 and served as a Stephen Minister and Leader until recently. Her Christian faith was the cornerstone for everything she did and the way she lived her life was a testimony to this. Mrs. Allen served on the Board of Education for Asheboro City Schools for 10 years, and the board of the Mental Health Center for 8 years. She was a loving and dedicated care giver to her husband Jim until his death in 2004. Mrs. Allen was preceded in death by her husband Jim. She is survived by her three children: Doug Allen and his wife Donna, of Asheboro; Ashley Allen Leonard of Wilmington; and Scott Allen and his wife Beth, of Asheboro; grandchildren Gina McKee and her husband Derek, Emily Arroyo and her husband Joe, Jill Allen, Kristyn Pritchard and Seth Leonard, and Austin and Kendall Allen; great-grandson Colton McKee; her sister Rebecca Glick and her husband Michael, of Carolina Beach; and her brother James Register of Clinton.
