At 7:10 pm on Wednesday, September 30, 2009, at Randolph Hospital, Asheboro NC , the immortal soul of Ruby S. Winslow passed gently from her earthly body to her eternal home in Heaven. Born in Perquimans County, NC, her parents were Lewis Anderson and Geneva Jackson Smith. A service of worship and memorial will be held in Asheboro Friends Meeting, 230 Kivett Dr., with visitation beginning at 1:00 pm until 2:30 pm and the service beginning at 3:00. Pastors Ken and Pat Thames will officiate. As a young person Ruby committed her life to Jesus Christ as her personal savior, and while in high school, she began to pray about her future. Because of a particular concern for the education of children, she chose to enroll in East Carolina University and became a teacher in public school. For more than 30 years, she taught first graders in North Carolina, Virginia and Tennessee, retiring in 1984 from Guy B. Teachey School in Asheboro .Ruby was predeceased by her parents, and her brothers Winfred and Josiah Smith all of Perquimans County, NC. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, pastoral minister Leslie N. Winslow, son and his wife Worth and Nada Winslow, daughter and her husband Mary Geneva and Mark Stickle, grandchildren Sarah Beth Stickle, Harrison and wife Amanda Stickle, Robert Stickle and great grandsons Carter and Caleb Stickle. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Reby Stallings, Teressa Smith and Eula Smith and 2 nephews and their wives as well as numerous cousins and friends.
Visitation will be prior to the service in the church worship room and at other times at the home of Leslie Winslow.The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Christine McCarty and her staff for their extraordinary care and medical treatment over the past months and to Hospice of Randolph County.
