Ruby Marie Trotter Helms, age 102, of Asheboro, passed away on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Carillon Assisted Living of Asheboro. Ruby was born near Tabernacle, North Carolina on August 30, 1911 to parents Allen Trotter and Ella Swaney Trotter.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 30, 2013 from 1:00-2:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Ave., Asheboro. Funeral services will follow on Saturday at 2:00 pm at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be held in Oaklawn Cemetery.
Ruby married Fred Maness and they had one child, Elna Laux. She also had five grandchildren, Michael, Dale, Byron, Kathy and Steven; twelve great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. .
In addition to her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by her husbands, Fred Maness and Ed Helms; three brothers: Lester, Cline, and Brownie; and one sister, Hazel.
As a child, Ruby attended Belvedere School and Sawyersville Church.
Ruby worked at Old Dominion for a long time, and when that company moved north of town, she went to work for Tie-Rite for a good long while.
She was a member of the Hoover Street Wesleyan Church.
Ruby enjoyed being a seamstress and doing handwork: embroidery and crocheting, and applique.
Ruby always enjoyed going to the mountains. She loved the trees and the leaves. She particularly liked Mt. Mitchell, Blowing Rock, and Chimney Rock.
The things that Ruby values most in her life are the Lord and music. She also very much valued caring for others, and originally'wanted to be a nurse. Although that opportunity didn't come, she cared for and nursed many of her neighbors.
Ruby spent her final years at Carillon Assisted Living, greeter at the front entrance, usually sitting by the fire with a newspaper. Always dressed, hair fixed with pearls on, ready to go.
