Roy Lee Blake, age 72, of Asheboro died Monday, October 13, 2014 at Randolph Hospice House, Asheboro. Mr. Blake was born June 20, 1942 the son of Lonnie Calvin and Lula Ann Thompson Blake. The family will receive friends Thursday, October 16, 2014 from 6 - 8 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC. The funeral will be Friday, October 17, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the Oakhurst Baptist Church, 2225 South Fayetteville Street, Asheboro with Dr. Richard Crider officiating. Burial will follow in New Hope Memorial Gardens, Asheboro. Mr. Blake was a loving husband, father and grandfather, a native of Montgomery County and a retired manager from Centel, with more than 37 years of service. He was an active member of Oakhurst Baptist Church where he held many leadership positions and enjoyed his life-long service to the Lion's Club. Roy may be best known for his portrayal of St. Nick. For the past 15 years, he has grown a long white beard and delighted children at Randolph Hospital, various churches and schools as Santa Claus. He and his wife Pat often lead lay renewal conferences at churches nationwide. Teams would enjoy weekend long meetings full of inspiring and motivating teaching and guidance. Roy also was a tech wizard and would often rebuild computers donated to the CUOC or fix computers for senior citizens to keep them in touch with the friends and family. As evidenced by his life, Roy was a wonderful, caring and giving Christian man, and he will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure to know him. He is survived by his wife of 43 years: Patricia Crabtree Blake, daughter and her husband: Leigh Anne and David Kadans of Spruce Pine, NC; sons and their wives: Jeffrey Lee and Patricia Blake of Canton, NC; Alan Reginald and Michelle Blake of Canton, NC; sister and her husband: Carol Stogner and Joe Lawson of Ocean Isle, NC, sister and her husband: Linda and George Schoenberger of Candor, NC; and one brother and his wife: Lonnie Jarrell and Josephine Blake of Midland, NC; 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Oakhurst Baptist Church, Choir Fund 2225 South Fayetteville Street, Asheboro, NC 27205 or to the Asheboro Lions Club, 1348 Henley Dr., Asheboro, NC 27205.
