Rodney "Rod" Paul Sprenkle, age 63, of Shoe Factory Rd, Mt Gilead left this world Saturday, August 16, 2014 at his home after fighting a courageous battle with stage 4 cancer which was diagnosed February 9, 2014.
Rod was born June 22, 1951 at Waynesboro, PA. He lived in the Wadeville area for many years where he operated the Hwy 109 Body Shop. He now has a new body, is stress free of his job, and has laid down his paint gun.
He was an active member of Blackwood Chapel Baptist Church. He was a member of the Wadeville Fire Department Board of Directors. Rod had a strong passion for old cars and antiques.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn Burns Sprenkle.
He is survived by his wife: Joyce Blake McIntyre of the home; three daughters: Lisa Short of Chambersburg, PA, Shelly Hummingwood of Fayetteville, PA, Courtney Tyson of Troy; stepfather, Kenneth Daywalt of Mt. Gilead; 3 stepbrothers: Kenneth "Butch" Daywalt, Jr. of Candor, Kevin Daywalt of Eagle Springs, Gary Daywalt of Mt. Gilead.
The family will receive friends Monday, August 18, 2014 from 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, 211 North Main Street, Troy; other times at his home.
A service to celebrate his life will be Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. at Blackwood Chapel Baptist Church, 5159 Pekin Road, Candor with Rev. Junior Medlin officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to FIRSTHEALTH Hospice Foundation, 150 Applecross Road, Pinehurst, NC 28374, or to the Montgomery County Animal Shelter, 1150 Okeewemee Rd., Troy, NC 27371, or do an unexpected kindness for some less fortunate soul.
