Robert Gary "Bob" Vachula, USCG, Retired, age 73, of Asheboro died Monday, April 20, 2015 at his home.
Mr. Vachula was born August 1, 1941 the son of Paul and Philomene Galenski Vachula.
Robert was a native of Northampton, Mass and retired from the US Coast Guard after 27 years of service. His service in the Coast Guard started at TRACEN Cape May, NJ and service took him to, Fire Island NY, Cape May, NJ, Michigan, Hawaii, the South Pacific and many stations in between. He made life-long friends in every duty station and after retiring he moved to North Carolina. His hobby became his passion, working on cars whether it be his own, creating a unique hot rod for himself or for someone else. He always had a way of touching people's lives and his friendly personality will be missed by many. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his wives': Arlene Dasen Vachula and Darlene Ellen Kunkle Vachula.
He is survived by two daughters: Brenda (Kenneth) Schafran of Swainton, NJ, Balinda Lee Vachula of Stowe, PA; grandchildren: Ryan A. Schafran; and Jordyn Alexa McKannan; brothers:Ronny (Margie) Vachula of Asheboro, Jimmy (Barbara) Vachula of FLA and Barry Vachula of Asheboro; sister: Teena Free of NY.
A memorial service will be held Friday, April 24, 2015 at 3:00 PM St. John's Lutheran Church, 505 S. Park St., Asheboro with Rev. Mark Ryman officiating. Military honors will be provided by US Coast Guard and the Randolph County Honor Guard.
