Robert Dennis Crowley, 90, died February 22, 2008 in Charlotte, NC. Bob was born in Milwaukee, WI on February 18, 1918, the youngest of twelve children, to the late Michael A. and Frances Hogan Crowley. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison where he lettered in swimming. He served for three years with the Army Finance Corps during World War II, part of which service was spent at Morris Field Air Base in Charlotte, NC. For four years after leaving the service, Bob was a Special Agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation serving primarily in New York, NY.
After working for the FBI, Bob resided in Asheboro, NC for 20 years and worked in the knitted garment industry. While in Asheboro, he was active in the community serving as senior warden at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, president of the Asheboro Rotary Club, president of the Asheboro Country Club and president of the Greater Asheboro United Way.
In 1973, Bob married Peggy Bell Benoit and they lived in Pawley's Island, SC until 1985 at which time they moved to Charlotte. While living in Pawley's Island, Bob worked at Oneita Knitting Mills in Andrews, SC retiring in 1983 as Vice President of Research and Development. In Charlotte, Bob was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church and was a Shepherd's Center volunteer receiving the Center's Volunteer of the Year award in 1993.
Bob is survived by his wife, Peggy, his daughter, Christine C. Andrews, and her husband, Jim, and their children, Dorothy, Jamie and Ginny Kirk, of Raleigh, NC; his step-son, W. Curtis Benoit, and his wife, Pam, and their son, Andrew, of Kannapolis, NC; his step-daughter, Sally B. Green, and her husband, Rick, and their children, Russell and Taylor, of Charlotte, NC; his brother, Michael T. Crowley, of Mequon, WI; a special niece, Barbara Brotski, of Green Bay, WI; and several other nieces and nephews. Bob was predeceased by his first wife, Dorothy Armstrong Crowley, and his step-daughter, Nancy K. Benoit, and ten siblings.
There will be a private family graveside service at Oaklawn Cemetery in Asheboro, NC.
