Robert Lee Cranford, age 92, of Randleman died Wednesday, April 14, 2010 at Randolph Hospital, Asheboro.
Mr. Cranford was a native of Stanly County and a member of Richfield Methodist Church. Mr. Cranford served in the United States Navy during WWII, participating in six invasions during his three years in Europe. Robert retired from Southern Railroad after 30 years of service. Robert, known as "Papasaun", was a loving husband and father. He enjoyed fishing and camping, and a huge fan of the New York Yankees. Mr. Cranford is preceded in death by his son, Melvin Douglas Cranford.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years: Maggie Cranford, of the home; daughters: Brenda Hill of Salisbury, NC, Betty Staley of Sophia, NC, Carolyn Jones of Pleasant Garden, NC, Nancy Parrish of Sophia, NC and son: Steve Cranford of Randleman, NC; 8 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; sisters : Essie and Bessie Stamper, both of Albemarle, NC
The family will receive friends Saturday, April 17, 2010 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 600 South Main Street, Randleman, NC. A Graveside Service will be held Sunday, April 18, 2010 at 2:00 PM at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, 46977 Wesley Chapel Rd., Misenheimer, NC 28109 with Pastor Jim Honeycutt officiating.
