Robert Bynum Cockerham, age 91, of Asheboro died Friday, August 15, 2014 at Randolph Hospice House.
Mr. Cockerham was a native of Randolph County and served in the Merchant Marines during WWII. He retired from General Electric in Asheboro and was a member of First Wesleyan Church of Asheboro where he served on the Board of Administration for many years. Mr. Cockerham was preceded in death by his parents, William Aucy and Stella Levada Cockerham and sister, Joan Cox.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Bernice Jester Cockerham; daughter, Lynn Cockerham Tesh and husband Ronald of Asheboro; grandchildren, Jennifer Hopkins and husband Standish of Denton, Amanda Cromartie and husband Tom of Greensboro; great grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Walker Hopkins of Denton, William and James Cromartie of Greensboro; sister, Lenora Mae Shaw of Asheboro.
The family will receive friends Saturday, August 16, 2014 from 6 - 8 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro. Funeral services will be held Sunday, August 17, 2014 at 2 PM at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wilson Harris officiating. Burial with military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard will be at Randolph Memorial Park.
