Robert Clarence Beasley, age 86, of 533 Mt. Gilead Road, Troy died Thursday, May 3, 2012 at his home.
Mr. Beasley was born March 7, 1926 at Surry County, NC, the son of James Arthur and Maggie Lee Lawson Beasley. He was an active member of the Troy Lions Club for fifty-two years. During this time he served as District Secretary for four years. He was a fifty-one year active member of the Montgomery County Rescue Squad. He was a former Montgomery County Boy Scout leader for Troops No. 81 and No. 125. During his time as scout leader, his troop attended the National Scouting Jamboree in 1964.
Mr. Beasley was also the area manager of Central Telephone Company having retired after thirty-two years of service. He was a US Navy veteran of World War II and an active member of First Baptist Church of Troy. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, James Claude Beasley.
Mr. Beasley will be remembered as a loving husband, grandfather and great-grandfather who loved the outdoors. He enjoyed his annual camping trips to the Great Smokey Mountains for many years and attending bluegrass festivals. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and working in his garden.
He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-six years, Juanita Draughn Beasley of the home; one daughter: Nancy B. Lamb and husband Zee of Elizabeth City; one son: Barry Beasley and wife, Jane Armstrong of Columbia, SC; five grandchildren: Blythe B. Edwards, Zack Beasley, Zee Lamb, Anna Kate Lamb and Caroline Lamb; two great-grandchildren: Jake and Lily Edwards; three sisters: Annabelle Hodges of Dobson, Dorothy Brannock and Ruby Pruitt, both of Mt. Airy; two brothers: Marvin Beasley and Paul Beasley, both of Mt. Airy.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm at First Baptist Church, 401 E. Main Street, Troy. His funeral service will follow at 3:00 pm with Dr. Phillips McRae officiating. Internment, with military honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard, will be in Southside Cemetery, S. Main Street, Troy.
