Robert "Bob" William Qualls, Jr., age 77, of Troy passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, February 3, 2020.
Mr. Qualls was born November 24, 1942 in Burlington, NC, the son of the late Robert W. Qualls, Sr. and the late Gelina C. (Montgomery) Qualls. He was a Veteran of the US Navy, serving from 1961 through 1965 on the USS Orion. He then began his law enforcement career by working part time at the Graham Police Department, followed by a full-time position at the University Police force at UNC Chapel Hill. After other Law Enforcement jobs Bob went back to school and obtained his bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice and Sociology from Pfeiffer College. Included in this degree was the certification to be able to teach law enforcement and to certify law enforcement officers. Upon graduation he was hired at the then Montgomery Technical Institute, now Montgomery Community College, in Troy, where he began his 30+ year career. His impact in law enforcement training was significant not only to this county but to neighboring counties as well. Bob was well known for his achievements in this area.
Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who was well respected and loved by many. He was known for his great sense of humor. After retirement he could be found working in his woodshop and enjoying his family.
He is survived by his wife: Mary Ann (Cobb) Qualls; sons: Rodney Qualls and wife Ellen of Troy, Timothy Qualls and wife Lori of Bear Creek, Michael Qualls and wife Carol of Lakeland, GA, and Dennis Qualls and wife Leigh of Troy; sisters: Shirley Phillips of Gibsonville, and Judy Hall and husband David of Snow Camp; brother: Kenneth Qualls and wife Vicki of Graham; 13 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Brenda Jones and her husband, Buck Jones.
The family will receive friends Friday, February 7, 2020 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM at Pugh Troy Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Troy, NC. The funeral will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at 11:00 AM at Pugh-Troy Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Devan Madden, Preacher Tim Qualls, and Preacher Mike Qualls officiating. Burial will follow at Eldorado Baptist Church Cemetery, 4667 Hwy. 109N, Troy, NC, with full Military Rites.
