Robert Scott "Bob" Aldridge, age 87, of Asheboro died Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital.
Bob was a native of Randolph County and a veteran of the US Navy serving in WWII. He retired from Randolph County Schools as a Media Specialist and was an active member of First United Methodist Church and it's D.W. Holt Sunday School Class. He was a member of the American Legion for over 60 years and was a past commander. For many years, Bob volunteered with the Randolph County Senior Adults Meals on Wheels. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Virginia Dee Aldridge Pugh and sister, Sarah Pugh Craven. Bob loved the outdoors and gardening, but most of all loved his God, church, and family. His greatest passions were growing tomatoes to share with everyone, reading the Bible, and playing Solitaire.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Carlene Cox Aldridge; daughters, Cynthia Dee Aldridge Bennett of Columbia, SC, Susan Scott Aldridge Dean (John) of Kernersville, NC; grandchildren, Zachery Scott Winslow (Summer) of West Columbia, SC and their children Lincoln and Luke, Tyler Scott Dean of Carolina Beach, NC, Ryan Christopher Dean of Raleigh, NC, Leigh Bennett-Conner (Andrew) of Norcross, GA and their son Duncan, and Sara Bennett Wessinger (Scott) of Newberry, SC and their children Donovan, Kaitlyn and Aidan; sisters, Betsy Chapman and Janet Johnson (Tommy); numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 26, 2015 at 2:00 pm at First United Methodist Church, 224 North Fayetteville Street, Asheboro with Rev. Josh Tester, Dr. Donald Haynes, Rev. George Roberson and Mr. Mitchell Sykes officiating. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be sent to First United Methodist Church in support of the youth programs, 224 North Fayetteville Street, Asheboro, NC 27203.
