Robert H. (Bob) Akers, age 86, of Asheboro passed away peacefully Thursday, June 4, 2015, at his home.
Mr. Akers was born in Wytheville, VA on June 18, 1928 to Robert and Effie Adams Akers. He was retired from the U.S. Navy after 20 years of service and also retired as a truck driver with B.B. Walker Shoe Company. Robert enjoyed his morning breakfast with his friends at Biscuitville and he enjoyed playing golf, reading and watching baseball on TV.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Joan Sykes Akers; children, Charlene Akers of Seattle, WA, Margie Wierenga of Myrtle Beach, SC, Stan Akers of Conway, SC, Julia Akers Teeter of Seattle, WA, Susan Chatelain (Bob) Young of Charlotte, NC; grandchildren, Tony Deaton (Karen), Savannah Wierenga, Nelson Hunter (Amanda), Hunter Young, Tanner Young, Mercedes Wierenga, Conner Young; 4 great grandchildren; and brother, Joseph (Mary) Akers of Fall River, MA.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
