Richard Lee Townsend

Richard Lee "Sarge" Townsend, age 62, of Liberty Street, Asheboro died Thursday, October 21, 2010 at his home. Funeral services will be held Monday, October 25, 2010 at 2:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rick Davis officiating and military honors by the Randolph County Honor Guard. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery. Mr. Townsend was a native of Baltimore, MD and was retired from the US Marine Corps where he served 23 months of combat duty in Vietnam. He is survived by his wife Barbara Townsend; son, Andrew Richard Thurman and his wife Catherine of Norfolk, VA; grandson, Erik Richard Thurman of Norfolk, VA; sisters, Shirley Ann Harrell of Tucson, AZ, Betty Lou Ayers of Las Vegas, NV; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers, Marvin Townsend, Jr., James Edward Townsend and sister, Joyce Irene Goodman. The family will receive friends Monday, October 25, 2010 from 12:30-2:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Randolph, P.O.
