Richard Lee Johnson, a resident of Plainfield Road, Sophia passed away at home surrounded by his family and four legged friend Skippy on Friday, March 9, 2018. He was born in Greensboro, NC to the late Hubert Pink and Annie Cole Johnson on March 17, 1945.
Richard served the citizens of Randolph County for 28 years in Law Enforcement. His career was with the Randleman Police Department, Randolph County Sheriff's Office, and 22 years with the Archdale Police Department. Mr. Johnson was the first officer hired for the Archdale Police Department and the first K-9 Officer in Randolph County. After his retirement, Mr. Johnson was employed with Wal-Mart in Randleman for 10 years.
He is survived by his wife, Grovena Earnhart Johnson, son Darren Johnson (Regina) of Randleman, daughter Lisa Johnson Beck (Jeff) of Asheboro, step son Dale Wilson of Sophia, step daughter Cindy Wilson (fiancé Joe Workman) of Sophia, brother Harry Pink Johnson (Rachel) of Gibsonville, sisters Mary Sue Sheets of Whitsett, Barbara Lou Jones of Whitsett, Catherine Bolanos Johnson of Franklinville, grandchildren Caleb Hudspeth (Kelly), Matthew Johnson, Derek Hudspeth (Jenna), Emily Johnson, Madison Wilson, Micah Wilson, Vince Hill, Lauren Cribb, adopted by love, Josh Hudson and Gracie Brown, and 5 great grandchildren.
Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Ruth Ann Kiger.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, March 13, 2018 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Pugh Funeral Home, 600 South Main Street in Randleman. Funeral will be Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at 1:00 pm at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel in Randleman. Officiating will be Reverend Chris Heppding, Reverend Steve Hill, and Reverend Jeff Beck. Burial will be at Randolph Memorial Park.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the caregivers from Community Home Care and Hospice, Denise Batton, Mary Skeen, and Leslie Davis.
