Richard Edward Gillson, age 71, of 625 Fork Creek Mill Rd., Seagrove died Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at Randolph Hospital, Asheboro.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2008 at 11:00 AM at the Seagrove United Methodist Church, 225 W. Main St., Seagrove with Rev. Robert E. Dowling officiating. Burial will follow in Whynot Cemetery.
Mr. Gillson was a native of Dunkirk, NY and was a member of Seagrove United Methodist Church. He was a former police office in Fredonia, NY and was former Police Chief of Seagrove. Richard was the operator of the Olde Pottery Shoppe, and Holly Hill Pottery and Candles. He was the founder of the Seagrove Pottery Festival, creator of the NC Museum of Traditional Pottery and through the museum helped create the Pottery Center. Richard was the official potter for the Lexington Barbecue Festival.
He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Gardner of Dunkirk, NY; 4 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 25, 2008 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro, NC.
