Rex Moffitt

Donald Rex Moffitt, age 68, of Asheboro died Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at Randolph Hospital, Asheboro.Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, August 1, 2009 at the Pugh Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Howard Moffitt and Rev. Sam Hicks officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery.Mr. Moffitt was a native of Randolph County, a member of West Asheboro Baptist Church and was retired from Central Gas Co. after 35 years of service. He loved sports, especially NASCAR racing. Mr. Moffitt was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Leach and Addie Yow Moffitt, and brothers, F. Jack, William (Bill), Royce and Max Moffitt. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Shirley Varner Moffitt; step-son, Dean Varner of Trinity, NC; sisters, Dorothy Craven and her husband Jack of Franklinville, Rose Auman and her husband Charles of Asheboro, Janice Tolbert and her husband Tommy of Mt. Gilead, Elda King and her husband Don of Asheboro; step grandchildren, James Dean Varner and Brittney Maria Varner both of Trinity, NC, and extended family, Kay and Kermit Williamson of Asheboro, NC.The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 1, 2009 from 12:30-1:30 PM at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Ave., Asheboro.Memorials may be made to West Asheboro Baptist Church Fellowship Hall Fund, 831 Uwharrie Street, Asheboro, NC 27203 or Woodfern Baptist Church Building Fund, 4434 Woodfern Rd., Seagrove, NC 27341.
