Rev. Arthur Thomas Swaney, age 78, of Asheboro died Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
Rev. Swaney was born in Randolph County on June 5, 1937 to Taylor and Sarah Gearen Swaney. He was employed with Bossong Hosiery for 15 years and was a former upholsterer for Alvin Councilman. Rev. Swaney was retired as Pastor of Trinity Holiness Church in Sophia after 37 years of service and was self-employed as a piano tuner. In addition to his parents, Rev. Swaney was preceded in death by his siblings, Charles Swaney, Dock Swaney, Francis Luther, and Jack Swaney. Among being a wonderful husband, he was always a kind, loving, and joyful man to everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Hilda Cox Swaney; siblings, Doris Gordon and husband Jaffie, Donald Ray Swaney and wife Bonnie, Bobbie Tysinger and husband Kenneth, Ted Swaney and wife Louise, and Gladys Hinshaw and husband Paul all of Asheboro; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday, July 17, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Pugh Funeral Home, 437 Sunset Avenue, Asheboro. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Holiness Church, 4997 Plainfield Rd., Sophia with Rev. Tim Cole and Rev. Don Adams officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
